2016 PHA National Conference CALL FOR PAPER PRESENTERS AND PARTICIPANTS

In line with the national celebration of History Month by virtue of Proclamation No. 339, s. 2012, the Philippine Historical Association (PHA) will hold a national gathering of historians, researchers and history/social science educators, on 18-20 August  2016 at Ateneo de Davao University, Davao City.

With the theme “Philippine Governance: Historical Perspectives”, the conference offers a reexamination of Philippine governance through historical and cultural perspectives. The origins of the economic, social and political predicaments of Philippine society can be rooted and assessed using historical knowledge and through historical research. Structural and functional analyses of historical data may unearth new insights in evaluating present-day governance issues. Such insights may offer alternatives as well as approaches in understanding and dealing with contemporary problems in governance. Likewise, the identification of recurring themes or historical patterns in Philippine governance may lead to further and deeper understanding of the nature of our societal structures and explain current and emerging politico-cultural issues. Thus, historical and cultural perspectives on Philippine Governance are essential inputs to a nation's understanding of the complexities of its identity’s past, present and future.

Specifically, the conference aims to: 1) serve as platform for reflection, interaction, and discussion of new and emerging researches and perspectives on the history of governance in the Philippines; and 2) enhance the knowledge and skills of history/social studies educators in teaching Philippine government and political history.
